FAQ (FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS)

This month we thought that we'd put together a list of our most frequently asked questions, which will hopefully be helpful for anyone who is unsure on what a booking agent is or does, or even what Beating Hearts is about.

Have a read and let us know what you think! We are always open to more suggestions to grow this list!

WHAT IS A BOOKING AGENT? A Booking Agent is responsible for booking live performances including shows, tours, festivals and any other performances for artists, bands, DJ's etc. They are responsible for developing the artist's career with regards to their live performance.

WHAT DOES BOOKING MEAN IN MUSIC?

A Booking Agent works in the live music industry to book their Artist's shows, festivals, tours and other live music performances. They schedule performances and negotiate between the Artist's and promoter/ booker to arrange the terms of contract, dates and fees.

WHEN SHOULD I HIRE A BOOKING AGENT?

As you develop and grow as an artist, you will likely reach the point where it becomes time to consider hiring an agent. This is an important step in taking your career to the next level, but is also not something that should be rushed into. Here are some things to consider...

Have you perfected your live show? Are you ready to turn your craft into a career? Do you need a booking specialist, who is able to dedicate their time and negotiate? Do you already have a strong following? Have you been playing shows and started building outside of your home town? Do you have a plan for (at least) the next year?

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR WHEN TAKING ON A NEW ARTIST?

We regularly receive emails from new artists looking for representation and can understand it's a bit of a minefield with knowing exactly what information to send over. Here is a list of what we look for when considering a new artist... Online presence and a good following. Include links to all the social media platforms that you use. Do you update your social media regularly? Do you engage with your fans? Are all of your social media platforms and website consistent?

Someone who has already been gigging around the UK and is building their audience. Tell us the venues/ festivals you've been playing, how was the audience? What bands have you been supporting? What shows do you have booked in your diary?

Someone who can produce a plan for the year ahead. This shows you have thought about how you are building your career and that you are organised.

We want to know what releases you have coming up and the plan behind them. Will you have a PR company working along side you? Is it already recorded and ready for us to listen to? Send us links to your next release/ video (a private soundcloud link is fine).

Recent press on releases or shows (send us the links!)

Artists that are well organised, prompt with replying to emails and are good at keeping website/ socials updated.

Do you have management/ label already?

Any bragging rights? For e.g. David Bowie produced your last album, Elvis snuck into one of your shows and is a mega fan...

Anything else you feel would catch our attention

ARE YOU TAKING ON ANY ARTISTS AT THE MOMENT?

Our roster is currently full but we are always interested in looking over your information.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A BOOKING AGENCY?

Beating Hearts started in Summer 2017 but MD Terri-Sian had previously worked at another agency since 2011, after going back to Uni to study Live Sound and Tour Production. She also works on festivals and events across the UK throughout the year.

DO YOU HAVE ANY JOB VACANCIES/ INTERNSHIPS CURRENTLY?

We're a small team here at Beating Hearts, so it's rare that we do have any opportunities. Please feel free to send us your CV though and we will keep it on file should something arise.
